On February 27, 2025, as part of the visit of the delegation of the Permanent Synod of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church (UGCC) to Ottawa, His Beatitude Sviatoslav met with Greg Fergus, Speaker of the Parliament of Canada.
The Head of the UGCC expressed sincere gratitude to Canada for becoming a home for over 300,000 Ukrainians who were forced to leave Ukraine due to Russian aggression. Many of them have found not only refuge in Canada but also a chance for a new life.
Greg Fergus assured that the Government of Canada will continue to support Ukrainians, as they have been a part of Canada for over 130 years, contributing to the country's development and becoming an integral part of its history.
At the end of the meeting, His Beatitude Sviatoslav presented the Speaker of the Parliament with a fragment of an Iranian drone - the very kind that flies over Ukrainian cities every night, bringing destruction and death. Along with this painful reminder, he also gifted a Ukrainian pysanka - a symbol of rebirth, life, and faith in the Resurrection.
We extend our deepest gratitude to Canada for its solidarity and unwavering support for Ukraine during this pivotal moment in our history.
