Today, the largest book event in Quebec and the biggest French-language book fair in North America – the 46th Salon du livre de Montréal 2023 – opened its doors.
The fair is traditionally dedicated to literature in French, but it has once again become a meeting place for Ukrainians seeking Ukrainian literature and local enthusiasts eager to learn the Ukrainian language.
This year, for the second time, a Ukrainian stand is featured at the fair.
Organizers of the stand – the Club Ukrainien de Montréal – with the support of the Embassy of Ukraine in Canada, the Ukrainian Book Institute, the Ukrainian Caisse Desjardins, and MEEST Canada, have showcased nearly one hundred Ukrainian books, including over 20 translated into French.
Notably, this year, the Ukrainian stand is proud to present the book Yellow Butterfly: A Story from Ukraine by Oleksandr Shatokhin, published by a Quebec publisher under a Ukrainian license, for the first time.
In addition to books, the Ukrainian stand also features an exhibition of posters from the #SupportUkrainePIC collection by the Pictoric illustrators' club. This collection was created after the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine and highlights the course of the war, Russian war crimes, the pain, and the resilience of the Ukrainian people.
We invite everyone to visit the fair, which will run in Montreal until November 26 at the Palais des Congrès de Montréal.
