Every year on Parliament Hill, Ukrainians and Canadians gather to honour the memory of the victims of the Holodomor
genocide in Ukraine.
This year, on November 18, representatives of the Government and Parliament of Canada, the diplomatic corps, clergy, and the Ukrainian community lit candles of remembrance and offered prayers for the millions of innocent Ukrainians murdered by the Soviet totalitarian regime.
In her remarks on behalf of the Government of Canada, Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Honourable Anita Anand, emphasized that restoring historical truth about the Holodomor is part of a global struggle for human dignity and freedom.
Ambassador of Ukraine to Canada, Andrii Plakhotniuk, in his address underlined how deeply we value Canada’s essential role in preserving the memory of the Holodomor, as well as its long-standing support for Ukraine - especially now, when the unpunished heirs of the Stalinist regime once again attempt to destroy Ukrainians as a people.
We extend our sincere gratitude to the organizers - Chair of the Canada-Ukraine Parliamentary Friendship Group, Yvan Baker, UCC National, Holodomor National Awareness Tour, and to distinguished speakers: MPs James Bezan and Martin Champoux, Senator Stan Kutcher, UCC National Executive Director Ihor Michalchyshyn, and Canada-Ukraine Foundation Executive Director Valeriy Kostyuk.
The memory of the Holodomor lives on thanks to those who preserve it.
