Today, on Ukraine’s Day of Remembrance for the Victims of the Holodomor, we honour the millions of Ukrainians who were starved to death by the Soviet regime in
1932–1933.
This morning, the Ukrainian flag at the Embassy was lowered and marked with a black ribbon.
By evening, millions of candles will be lit in the windows of Ukrainian homes in Ukraine, in Canada, and all over the world, their small lights casting a quiet glow of remembrance for every life taken.
The Holodomor was aimed at breaking the will of the Ukrainian people to resist oppression.
Today, Russia is again using the brutal tools of the Soviet regime to destroy Ukraine.
We survived then, and we will survive now - and the truth will prevail.
May the memory of the victims be eternal.
Слава Україні!
