The symbolism of the Ukrainian flag is profoundly significant. Today, blue and yellow represent courage, resilience, and the fight for freedom and democratic values.
A fight to protect the future of the entire world from evil.
And also – our Victory.
Today, Ottawa was festively adorned in blue and yellow.
On the occasion of Ukrainian National Flag Day, together with Ambassador of Ukraine Yuliya Kovaliv, Mayor of Ottawa Mark Sutcliffe, Member of Parliament Mona Fortier, Deputy Mayor of Gatineau Louis Sabourin, numerous representatives of the diplomatic corps, and the Ukrainian community, we ceremoniously raised the Ukrainian flag on the main flagpole of Canada’s capital in front of Ottawa City Hall.
In the evening, on Parliament Hill in Ottawa, the Ukrainian flag was unfurled to the sound of the national anthem, and a symbolic run, Unite for Ukraine's Independence, was held. Participants included Yvan Baker, MP and Chair of the Canada-Ukraine Parliamentary Friendship Group, diplomats from the Ottawa Running Diplomats Club, numerous friends of Ukraine, and the Ukrainian community.
The participants ran a symbolic 3.2 km in honor of the 32nd anniversary of Ukraine’s Independence Day.
To conclude the day, the central tower of Canada’s Parliament – the Peace Tower – was illuminated in the colors of the Ukrainian flag as a symbol of solidarity and unity with Ukraine. The Office of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was also lit in blue and yellow.
Thank you to everyone who participated and supported the event: Ottawa City Hall, SUSK: Ukrainian Canadian Students' Union, UCC National - Ukrainian Canadian Congress, and Ukrainian Canadian Congress - Ottawa Branch.
