Ambassador of Ukraine to Canada, Yuliya Kovaliv, had the honor of opening this year's annual conference of the Canadian Institute for the Administration of Justice (CIAJ).
In her address, the Ambassador emphasized the importance of upholding the rule of law, stating, "The strength of the law must surpass the strength of weapons." The pursuit of justice for Russia’s crimes and accountability for the Putin regime remain critical elements of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's Peace Formula.
Ukraine's Office of the Prosecutor General is currently investigating over 105,000 war crimes, including crimes linked to the forced deportation of Ukrainian children. Ambassador Kovaliv highlighted Ukraine's steadfast call for the establishment of a Special International Tribunal to investigate the crime of aggression against Ukraine, expressing deep gratitude to Canada for joining the Core Group supporting this initiative.
Another key aspect of holding Russia accountable is the confiscation of frozen Russian assets. The Ambassador praised Canada’s leadership in this area, noting its pioneering role in passing relevant legislation and beginning its implementation.
The conference provided an essential platform to underscore the importance of international cooperation in upholding justice and ensuring accountability for crimes committed during Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.
