Ukrainian Canadian Congress - Alberta Provincial Council Celebrates 50 Years of Activity
09 November 2024 20:41

Ambassador of Ukraine Yuliya Kovaliv participated in the conference dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress - Alberta Provincial Council (UCC Alberta). This milestone is significant for all Ukrainians in the province, as over the past half-century, UCC Alberta has become an integral part of the larger Ukrainian community in Canada.

The conference welcomed distinguished guests, including Her Honour Salma Lakhani, Lieutenant Governor of Alberta; Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Official Languages Randy Boissonnault; Member of Parliament Garnett Genuis; Mayor of Edmonton Amarjeet Sohi; Member of the Alberta Legislature for Camrose Jackie Lovely; UCC National President Alexandra Chyczij; UCC Alberta President Orysia Boychuk, and other honorable guests.

Fifty years of UCC Alberta's work represents decades of dedication, solidarity, and unwavering commitment to Ukraine. Through the efforts of Ukrainians in the province, the world’s first Holodomor memorial was erected, the Canadian Institute of Ukrainian Studies (CIUS) at the University of Alberta—one of the leading centers of Ukrainian studies globally—was established, and numerous museums, cultural centers, and Ukrainian schools have been opened to preserve and promote Ukrainian heritage.

We are deeply grateful for the twinning relationship between Alberta and Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast, which symbolizes friendship and mutual support between our regions.

Ambassador Kovaliv congratulated the Ukrainian community on this landmark anniversary and expressed sincere gratitude to the Ukrainians of Alberta for their unwavering support for Ukraine.

“In times when Ukraine is resisting Russian aggression, the solidarity of Ukrainians in Canada is a source of strength and hope. The spirit of Ukraine lives in each of you—in every tradition, melody, dance, and word of the Ukrainian language you cherish. Your steadfast support and advocacy for Ukraine, humanitarian aid, and efforts to welcome newly arrived Ukrainians strengthen our shared dream of victory and a free, peaceful, and prosperous Ukraine.”

We remain united in this fight for Ukraine and continue building a better future together!
