This year, Ukraine commemorates May 8 as the Day of Remembrance and Victory over Nazism in World War II for the first time, joining the rest of the free democratic world.
Today, just as 80 years ago, Ukraine is standing against evil and aggression. While the aggressor is different—now Russia—the goal remains the same: the enslavement or destruction of Ukraine.
Together with Canadian friends, members of Parliament, military attachés, diplomats, and the Ukrainian community, we honored the memory of millions of victims of World War II, including the brave Ukrainians and Canadians who sacrificed their lives to defend shared values—democracy, freedom, human rights, equality, and dignity—and who achieved victory over Nazism.
Ambassador of Ukraine, Yuliya Kovaliv, presented the families of two Canadian heroes, Kyle Ronald Porter and Cole Conrad Zelenco, who fell in battle near Bakhmut defending Ukraine, with the Crosses of Courage, an award of the President of Ukraine.
Eternal memory to all who perished in World War II.
Glory to every individual who fought against and defeated Nazism.
Glory to all our warriors currently fighting for Ukraine. May the victory over the present-day Russian aggressor be the greatest tribute to those who gave their lives for peace and the defeat of Nazism.
We express our gratitude to the National Military Cemetery, UCC National - Ukrainian Canadian Congress, Ukrainian Canadian Congress - Ontario Provincial Council, WunderFund, and Future Bakery for their support in organizing the event.
