At the invitation of Canada’s Ministry of Natural Resources, Ambassador of Ukraine to Canada Yuliya Kovaliv took part in a meeting of deputy energy ministers from all provinces and territories of Canada.

During the meeting, the Ambassador highlighted the ongoing energy crisis caused by Russia’s deliberate destruction of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. Since March of this year, Russia has resumed its energy terror, targeting thermal and hydroelectric power plants. Approximately 7 GW of energy capacity has been destroyed or damaged by missile and drone attacks—an amount greater than the combined capacity of Canada’s five largest thermal power plants.

Last year, Canada allocated CAD 115 million to repair damaged energy infrastructure in Kyiv, and Canadian energy companies provided critical energy equipment to Ukrainian counterparts.

Now, Ukraine faces the urgent task of rapidly rebuilding damaged infrastructure and preparing for the next winter season. The Ambassador shared a list of essential equipment needed for repairs and reconstruction with representatives of Canadian provinces and territories and called on them to support Ukraine by contributing to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund.
