Ukraine is interested in further deepening its partnership with Canada at both the political and economic levels. This was stated by the Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Dmytro Razumkov during the online meeting with the Speaker of the House of Commons of the Parliament of Canada Anthony Rota.
"The Verkhovna Rada has already adopted a number of bills to support businesses with significant investments. At the same time, bills are being considered in the Parliament, which, I am sure, will be of interest to Canadian investors," the Speaker of the Ukrainian Parliament stressed.
Dmytro Razumkov thanked Canada for its principled position and support of Ukraine on various international platforms, in particular, in NATO, OSCE, UN and as an observer of the PACE.
"If we talk about the work of our Inter-Parliamentary friendship groups, they are effective. Indeed, COVID-19 has reduced their activity because it is not possible to do online what we used to do during face-to-face meetings. But I am sure we will be able to return to the meetings that were before," he said.
The Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada noted Canada's assistance in the field of national security. "Ukraine has been at war for seven years now. And issues related to territorial integrity, protection of our people, are fundamental for every representative of the government," he said.
Dmytro Razumkov expressed gratitude for Canada's financial assistance to support Ukraine's security and defense sector. "I am grateful to Canada for the continued and unwavering support we have seen over the years. For us, these are not just words, but concrete actions that we see from our reliable partner," he said.
The Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada also thanked the Speaker of the House of Commons of the Parliament of Canada for assistance to Ukraine in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. He expressed condolences over the high incidence and mortality rates in Canada due to the Coronavirus disease.
In turn, Anthony Rota said that the exchange of experiences between the two countries is extremely important, this applies to both cooperation in educational programs and investment projects. He also noted that Canada has always supported and continues to support the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine.
