With deep sorrow, we inform you that on 1 March 2021, at the age of 83, the first Foreign Minister of independent Ukraine, Anatoliy Zlenko passed away.
Anatoliy Zlenko began his career as attaché of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Soviet Ukraine after graduating from Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv in 1967.
He worked as Permanent Representative of the Soviet Ukraine to UNESCO (1983-1987), Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the UN (1994-1997), Ambassador of Ukraine to the French Republic and Non-Resident Ambassador to Portuguese Republic, Permanent Representative of Ukraine to UNESCO (1997-2000). Twice he served as Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine (1990-1994, 2000-2003).
Anatoliy Zlenko received a PhD in Political Science, he became Honorary Doctor of the Diplomatic Academy of Ukraine at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.
For his services and personal contribution to the formation of the diplomatic service and the development of international relations, Anatoliy Zlenko was awarded numerous awards, including the Order of Merit (Ukraine) of second and first class, the Order of Prince Yaroslav the Wise (Ukraine) of fifth to second classes, the Legion of Honour (France), the Order of Merit (Portugal), the Order of Honour (Georgia).
