President Zelenskyy’s call with Prime Minister of Canada Mark Carney

On May 2, 2025, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a phone call with Canada’s Prime Minister Mark Carney.
The President personally congratulated Mr. Carney and the Liberal Party of Canada on their victory in the federal elections and wished him success in his new role.
President Zelenskyy informed Prime Minister Carney about the aftermath of recent Russian missile strikes across Ukraine and emphasized that strengthening Ukraine’s air defense remains a top priority. As Russia increases its production of ballistic missiles, Ukraine urgently needs enhanced protection from these threats.
The leaders discussed steps toward achieving a full, unconditional ceasefire and a just peace. President Zelenskyy stressed that increased pressure on Russia — particularly through sanctions targeting the banking and energy sectors — can significantly influence this process. They agreed to coordinate actions with international partners.
Special attention was paid to Canada’s upcoming G7 presidency and Ukraine’s cooperation with Canada within the Coalition of the Willing. The President noted that both countries are preparing new formats of cooperation to be launched in the near future.
President Zelenskyy thanked Canada for its steadfast support and expressed confidence in the continued effectiveness of the bilateral partnership.
