On June 26, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy of Ukraine Yuliia Svyrydenko and Canada’s Minister of Export Promotion, International Trade and Economic Development Mary Ng issued a joint statement on this historic event.

As highlighted in the joint statement, Canada remains committed to strengthening its relationship with Ukraine by supporting its security and stability. The ministers emphasized their continued efforts to provide additional opportunities for Canadian and Ukrainian businesses and workers to foster robust, sustainable, and inclusive economic recovery.

Key Benefits of the Updated Free Trade Agreement Between Ukraine and Canada:

The agreement introduces market liberalization for services based on a negative list principle, meaning that all services are permitted unless explicitly excluded in the agreement. Investment protection will be enhanced through new comprehensive and modern tools, encouraging the maximum development of trade in services between Ukrainian and Canadian companies.

- Ukrainian company workers providing services in Canada will have simplified and expanded conditions for temporary entry into Canada.

- The agreement will assist Ukraine in building a free and open digital economic ecosystem, fostering the development of digital technologies.

- Goods exported to Canada without tariffs can include components from the EU, the UK, and Israel. This provision will further integrate Ukraine into global supply chains.

- Environmental issues, labor standards, transparency, and responsible business practices play a significant role in the agreement.
