Hundreds of names. Hundreds of flowers. One shared grief.
On June 4, marking the Day of Remembrance for Children Killed as a Result of Russian Armed Aggression Against Ukraine, Parliament Hill in Ottawa became a field of memory for the youngest victims of war.
Each placard on the green lawn bore the name of a child whose life was cut short by the war. A flower was laid beside each name - a sign that their memory lives on.
Dozens of hearts came together on this day: Ambassador of Ukraine Yuliya Kovaliv, Canadian parliamentarians, the Ukrainian Canadian Congress, members of the Ukrainian community, and compassionate residents of Ottawa.
“These children were meant to live. To laugh, to dream, to grow up surrounded by love. But Russia stole their lives. And today, it is our duty to be their voice - to tell their stories to the world and to act.
Strengthening sanctions, lowering the oil price cap, seizing frozen Russian assets - these are not just policies. They are tangible steps to stop the war, to halt the daily shelling of Ukrainian cities where hundreds of thousands of children live - and to save their lives,”
- emphasized Ambassador Yuliya Kovaliv.
Taras Kinash offered a prayer - for the innocent souls lost and for those who live with the pain.
This memorial is more than a commemorative event. It is our collective voice for those who will never say “mama” again, never go to school, never draw a sun. And it is our solemn reminder to the world: Russia’s war is stealing Ukraine’s future.
We sincerely thank everyone who joined this important act of remembrance - the Ukrainian Canadian Congress, the Russian Embassy Protesters Group, and the volunteers.
Thank you to all who came.
To all who remember.
To all who act to stop Russia’s crimes.
