The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi, had the honor of welcoming General Jennie Carignan, Chief of the Defence Staff of the Canadian Armed Forces, to Ukraine.
During the meeting, several important issues were discussed. The Canadian colleague was thoroughly briefed on the operational situation at the frontlines, the current security situation in Ukraine, and the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine for weapons and military equipment.
Special attention was paid to strengthening Ukraine’s air and missile defense capabilities. In the context of ongoing missile and aviation strikes by the enemy targeting critical infrastructure, defense industry facilities, and residential areas, the need to enhance Ukraine’s air defense systems to achieve superiority over the enemy was emphasized.
The Armed Forces of Ukraine highly value Canada’s contributions to the work of coalitions focused on the development of unmanned systems, air forces, armored vehicles, and information technologies. The effectiveness of the Canadian Armed Forces' UNIFIER military training mission was particularly noted, which has trained nearly 43,000 Ukrainian servicemen over its ten years of operation.
The Commander-in-Chief expressed his sincere gratitude to General Jennie Carignan, the Government of Canada, and the Canadian people for their strong and consistent support of Ukraine in its struggle for independence. He also highlighted the unique military assistance provided to Ukraine’s Defense Forces, including the professional training of Ukrainian F-16 pilots in Canada and the provision of language training for flight and technical personnel.
Ukraine is grateful to Canada for its significant contribution to our joint fight for freedom, peace, and stability.
