On November 24, members of the Ukrainian Embassy in Canada, Members of Ontario Legislative Assembly, as well as numerous representatives of the Ukrainian community of Canada took part in an event commemorating the 85th anniversary of the Holodomor of 1932-1933 in Ukraine. A memorial service for victims of the Holodomor-Genocide was held in the St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Shrine. In their speeches, the speakers emphasized the need to consolidate the efforts of the international community in countering totalitarian regimes in order to prevent the repetition of such tragedies as the Holodomor in the future. The attendees honored the memory of millions of Holodomor victims with a minute of silence.
Symbolic 5 ears - the price of a human life in the era of the Holodomor – were laid to the monument to Taras Shevchenko in Ottawa.
The event was organized by the Ukrainian Canadian Business and Professional Association of Ottawa.
