The Honourable Julie Payette payed her first visit to Ukraine on January 18, 2018.
Governor General and President of Ukraine visited the Yavoriv training area and met with Canadian instructors and Ukrainian military personnel of the UNIFIER mission.
“We appreciate the decision of Canada to extend the mandate of the UNIFIER mission until 2019. This is not only a symbol, not only a sign of support, but also a significant contribution to the professional training of the Ukrainian military,” Petro Poroshenko stressed.
During the joint press-conference the Honourable Julie Payette noted that her visit was aimed to underscore Canada’s commitment and support for the sovereignty, security and territorial integrity of Ukraine. “Our country will remain a close ally, inter alia, during this year when we will preside in the G7. We will keep collaborating with Ukrainian to achieve this goal. We will continue providing assistance so that Ukraine can implement institutional reforms and achieve economic upturn”.
