The Honourable Chrystia Freeland, Minister of Foreign Affairs traveled to Ukraine from December 21 to December 22, 2017. It was her first visit to Ukraine as Minister of Foreign Affairs.
She met with President Petro Poroshenko, Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman and Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin to discuss the current political and security situation in the country and to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the establishment of Ukrainian diplomacy.
The Minister also met with several Ukrainian ministers leading on the implementation of reforms.
In order to address the most pressing needs of people affected by the conflict in eastern Ukraine, the Minister announsed $7.75 million in humanitarian assistance funding for 2017 and 2018. This assistance is being provided to a number of experienced and trusted international humanitarian partners operating in Ukraine.
