We were honored to gather friends of Ukraine, diplomats, members of the Canadian Parliament, and representatives of the Ukrainian community at the Embassy of Ukraine in Canada to immerse ourselves in the enchanting world of Ukrainian Christmas.
The evening began with warm words from the Ambassador of Ukraine to Canada, Yuliia Kovaliv, who guided guests through the traditions of Christmas Eve - from the first star in the sky to the 12 dishes on the festive table. Symbols such as the didukh and kutia reminded us of the spiritual connection with our ancestors, the unity of family, and the hope for a just and lasting peace for Ukraine.
The Christmas spirit was brought to life by Ukrainian carols performed by the Ottawa Children’s Choir. Guests were captivated by the traditional Ukrainian carols, the charming koza (Christmas goat), and the melodic, world-famous "Shchedryk" (Carol of the Bells).
A special corner, "Write a Postcard to a Ukrainian Soldier," allowed everyone to express words of support and gratitude to Ukrainian soldiers who continue to defend our freedom, even this Christmas.
This evening was not just a celebration of traditions but also a reminder of the resilience and spirit of Ukrainians who, despite challenges and Russian aggression, share their unique culture with the world.
Our heartfelt thanks go to our partners (UCU - Ukrainian Credit Union), the Ottawa Children’s Choir, volunteers, and everyone who contributed to the organization of this event.
Together, we create unforgettable moments that unite and inspire.
Merry Christmas! Christ is born!
