Canada continues to stand with Ukraine.
Today, the Government of Ontario announced the introduction of a mandatory Grade 10 history course on the Holodomor of 1932-1933 in Ukraine and its impact on the Ukrainian community in Canada, starting in September 2025.
The new curriculum will teach that the Holodomor of 1932-1933 was the result of the totalitarian policies of the Soviet communist regime, which caused an artificial famine in Ukraine, claiming the lives of millions of Ukrainians. Students will also learn how totalitarian ideologies enable widespread political repression through mass intimidation, arrests, and imprisonment.
The ultimate goal of implementing such a course is to instill democratic, freedom-oriented values, respect for human rights, and the rule of law among Canadian youth.
Additionally, to further the awareness of the Holodomor, the Government of Ontario will invest CAD 400,000 to support the Canada-Ukraine Foundation and the Holodomor Mobile Classroom Holodomor National Awareness Tour project.
This multimedia mobile classroom is expected to continue its journey through schools across the province, engaging over 4,000 students from grades 6-12 in interactive learning.
Ukraine is grateful to Canada for its steadfast and consistent support.
