Ambassador of Ukraine to Canada, Yuliya Kovaliv, began her official visit to the province of Saskatchewan. The first stop was the city of Saskatoon — a place where Ukrainian history and culture are deeply rooted and present in every corner.
The visit started with a tour of the Ukrainian Museum of Canada, a unique institution that preserves and promotes the legacy of the first Ukrainian settlers in Canada. It is not just a collection of embroidered shirts, icons, or traditional towels — it is the living history of thousands of families who, more than a century ago, built a new home here while preserving their language, faith, and love for Ukraine.
The day continued with a warm and heartfelt meeting with the Ukrainian community of Saskatoon, which unites both descendants of early immigrants and newcomers who have found refuge in Canada from Russia’s aggression. The conversation focused on the most essential things — unity, the pain of war, the responsibility toward those on the front lines, and the future of Ukraine. Topics included education, culture, support for the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the preservation of Ukrainian identity, consular services, and more.
“Even thousands of kilometers away from Kyiv, here in Saskatchewan, Ukraine is near. Wherever there is a Ukrainian community — Ukraine lives. And it is thanks to people like you that Canada and the world hear our voice,” the Ambassador emphasized during the meeting.
We sincerely thank Jen Budney, Executive Director of the Museum, and her team for the warm welcome, incredible work, and dedication to preserving Ukraine’s voice in Canada.
Special thanks to the Ukrainian Canadian Congress – Saskatchewan Provincial Council and its Executive Director Danylo Puderak for organizing the community gathering and for their continued, heartfelt support of Ukraine.
