Andrii Sybiha Attends the Send-Off Ceremony for Ukraine’s National Team at the Invictus Games 2025
31 January 2025 19:52

On Friday, January 31, Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrii Sybiha took part in the official send-off ceremony for Ukraine’s national team as they prepared to compete in the Invictus Games 2025, an international adaptive sports event, set to take place in Canada.

"We are grateful for your service and for being a shining example of courage, resilience, and determination. In Canada, you will not only compete but also bring pride to our country. Significantly, Canada has assumed the presidency of the G7 as of January. You are our pride, and I am confident that you will represent Ukraine at the highest level," the Minister stated.

Minister Sybiha emphasized that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs prioritizes veterans’ policy and support, particularly within the framework of the National Strategy for Barrier-Free Space, initiated by First Lady Olena Zelenska. He also announced that in October this year, Ukraine and Croatia will co-host a special international conference focused on veteran support, advancing the veteran movement, and integrating global best practices in this field.

The Foreign Minister expressed his deep gratitude to international partners for their unwavering support and belief in Ukraine. He also wished Ukraine’s Invictus team success and victory in Vancouver.

The Minister for Veterans Affairs of Ukraine highlighted that Ukraine’s delegation is not merely heading to a competition - they are carrying the strength, faith, and courage of an entire nation onto the world stage. She noted that events like these help shape a more positive perception of Ukraine, as every athlete brings their unique story of overcoming adversity - personal challenges, wartime struggles, and triumphs over the enemy.

"I wish you to cherish every moment spent at the Games. I wish you victories - both as a team and individually in the sports you have chosen. We hope that thousands of servicemen and veterans will be inspired by your example and say: ‘I too want to show my strength.’ The sense of brotherhood and mutual support you demonstrate during these Games is invaluable. Above all, I want to thank you, as your sacrifice in defending each of us is something we can never fully repay. It is a debt every person carries," she stated.

As part of Ukraine’s preparations for the Invictus Games 2025, Ukrainian diplomats have arranged a series of high-level meetings in Canada for the national team. These will include discussions with senior officials responsible for veterans' policy, visits to rehabilitation centers, thematic roundtables for experience exchange, and meetings with civil society organizations working to honor fallen heroes.

The MFA of Ukraine is also providing communication support to the national team before and during their participation in the Games, working closely with the Ministry for Veterans Affairs and various civil society organizations.

In 2023, Ukraine’s Invictus team was honored with the highest MFA award for public diplomacy in the "Sports Diplomacy" category at the Honorary Ambassadors Awards. This prestigious recognition highlights the team’s significant contribution to promoting Ukraine’s positive image worldwide.

The Invictus Games 2025 - an international adaptive sports event - will be held in Canada (Vancouver and Whistler) from February 8 to 16, 2025.
