Mustafa Dzhemilev – an outstanding leader of the Crimean Tatars, Soviet dissiden, Member of the Parliament of Ukraine, Commissioner of the President of Ukraine for the Crimean Tatars Affairs will visit Ottawa on May 17-18, 2016.
On the 17th of May (Tuesday), at 5:30 p.m., a commemorative event, dedicated to the victims of the deportation of Crimean Tatars in 1944 (the Parliament of Ukraine has recognized it as an act of genocide of the Crimean Tatar people) and in support of the Crimean Tatars, who now face harsh repression due to the occupation by the Russian authorities, will be held on Parliament Hill.
Furthermore, on the 18th of May (Wednesday) at 4 p.m., the film «A Struggle for Home. The Crimean Tatars » will be screened at the University of Ottawa.The screening will be held within the framework of Ukrainian-Canadian Film Festival, under the auspices of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress - Ottawa Branch, with the assistance of the Embassy of Ukraine in Canada and Chair of Ukrainian Studies at the University of Ottawa (for more information about the film - http://astruggleforhome.com/#).
