The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine expresses protest in view of the visit of the Head of the Russian Government Dmitry Medvedev to the Autonomous Republic of Crimea Temporarily Occupied by the Russian Federation.

Ukrainian MFA has repeatedly emphasized unacceptability of Russian high officials’ visits to the sovereign territory of Ukraine in its internationally recognized borders, including the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, without due coordination with Ukrainian authorities.

The said coordination requirements originate from the recognized international practice based on unconditional respect for the sovereignty of foreign countries.

The visit of Dmitry Medvedev to the Autonomous Republic of Crimea is a blatant neglect of Ukraine’s state sovereignty by the Russian authorities, an evidence of Russia’s violation of the UN Charter, principles and norms of the international law, as well as Russia’s conscious disregard of its international commitments.
