Statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine regarding the transfer of the ICC "Artek" to the Russian Federation’s ownership
02 April 2015 21:58

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine notes with deep concern that the illegal authorities established on the territory of the temporarily occupied Autonomous Republic of Crimea and in Sevastopol continue their overtly unlawful activities associated with the seizure and uncontrolled use of Ukraine’s state property in the area.

This is evidenced by the results of the session of the so-called “Council of Ministers of the Crimean Republic”, which took place on March 31, 2015. Among other things, the “Council” took the decision to transfer the world-famous International Children’s Center “Artek” from “state ownership of the Crimean Republic to Russia’s federal ownership”.

This shameful act is yet another violation in the long series of criminal acts by the Russian Federation on the temporarily occupied territories of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol, deliberately robbing Ukraine of its property and consistently demonstrating blatant disregard for the most basic principles of International Law.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine considers it necessary to emphasize that in 2006, the Government of Ukraine and UNESCO signed an agreement, which granted the State Enterprise of Ukraine International Children's Center "Artek" the status of a Center under the auspices of UNESCO (category 2).
In this regard, we urge UNESCO, other leading international organizations, and the whole international community to condemn such actions in defiance of the civilized world by the Russian side, and to consolidate international pressure on Russia urging respect for international law, immediate abolition of all unlawful decisions, which resulted in temporary occupation of Ukrainian territory, and compensation for damages inflicted on Ukraine and its citizens.

The Ministry would also like to remind the authors of this and other unlawful decisions, as well as those who attempt to implement them of the imminent responsibility for such actions.”
